This workshop discussed women writers, asking whether women writers have that “special something”, a unique ability to enrich the emotions of their characters and works of fiction. Participants identified and shared perceptions of their writing influences through a series of short writing prompts.

Leading the workshop was Marsha H. Lupi, EdD, retired after 45 years as a professor of special education and college dean in New York City and Jacksonville, Florida. Highlights of her career include participating in faculty-led study abroad, leadership training, and promoting diversity in education. She has published numerous academic research articles. In 2017, Marsha joined the San Marcos Writers Group, which she found helpful as she transitioned from academic writing to fiction. She is the author of two mystery novels with strong female protagonists, Private Clients (2022) and Please Find Her (2025), and is at work on her third.
