The ENCORE Bookstore is probably one of the best-kept secrets in Vista. Located just inside the Vista Library on Eucalyptus, this used bookstore has an incredible inventory of books and more at garage-sale prices. The inventory changes daily due to generous donations from residents in Vista and surrounding areas. 

What We Sell

The ENCORE bookstore sells:

  • Used fiction books in all categories: hardback and paperback fiction, mysteries, thrillers, romance, sci-fi, children’s books, young adult books, westerns, coffee table books, humor, classics, cozy mysteries, and current best-sellers. Prices range from 25 cents to $5 per item, with an average of $2 per book.
  • Used nonfiction books including biographies, arts and crafts, self-help and motivational, spirituality and religion, history, dogs and cats, gardening, cookbooks, reference, education and textbooks, and many more categories.
  • A small inventory of books in large print. We could always use more donations in this area.
  • Books in Spanish and a smattering of other languages.
  • Movie DVDs, plus a handful of self-help/lecture DVDs, which are $1 per disc.
  • Music CDs, which are $1 per disc.
  • Jigsaw puzzles are $2 each and do not go on sale during sale days.
  • Magazines are 25 cents each.
  • Greeting cards are 25 cents each, and we have blanks, holiday, get well, thinking of you, thank you, and more. Postcards are 10 cents each.
  • Bookmarks
  • Ear buds
  • Doo-dads
  • Free items include VCR tapes and selected magazines

Payment Options

The store takes cash (exact change is appreciated) and checks and recently added the capability to charge your purchases via credit card. To use a credit card, you’ll need to open the payment app on your phone via a QR code.  We have a $5 minimum to use your credit card.

Monday: 10-4
Tuesday 12-6
Wednesday: 12-6
Thursday: 10-4
Friday: 10-4
Saturday: 10-4 
Sunday: 12-3

Please note our staff is all-volunteer, and store hours can vary with no notice.

Supporting the Library

All sales go to supporting Vista Library programs, building improvements, new materials for the library, and special items requested by the librarian.

Donations

Feel free to drop off your book, DVD, and/or puzzle donations any time during store hours.  If you have a large amount, please ask a librarian for a cart that you can borrow.  

Location

The ENCORE Bookstore is located inside the Vista Library immediately after you enter. It’s on the right. 

 Staff

The ENCORE Bookstore is staffed by volunteers from The Friends of the Vista Library, Inc. You’ll find a friendly face behind the desk ready to help when you come into the store.

Ongoing Deals

Special sales events include a members-only 50% off sale every second Friday and a public 50% off sale on the last consecutive Friday and Saturday of each month for even more bargains.

March – April 2026 Deals

Children’s books and cookbooks are half off until supplies last, probably through April 2026.
