Vista Library participants joined author Kathleen Kastner who shared her inspiration behind her Karma Cats children’s book series, born from the love of her feline companions, Julian and Oliver. Through these stories, Kathleen promotes kindness toward animals and highlights animal welfare issues. In this interactive workshop, participants were invited to share how pets have shaped their lives and explored how personal stories can inspire empathy in readers of all ages.

Kathleen Kastner holds an M.S. in Education and a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Kansas. She is the creator of the Karma Cats franchise and books, including Karma Cats to the Rescue, Karma Cats to the Farm, Karma Cats Kitten Adventure, and now Karma Cats Puppy Quest. A yoga teacher and dedicated animal advocate, she lives in Encinitas with her husband and three rescue cats, and volunteers at Rancho Coastal Humane Society.
